Liquid dish soap is the leading cause of poisonings in the home for children under the age of six (over 2.1 million accidental poisonings per year). Most brands of liquid dish soap contain formaldehyde and ammonia.

The State of California recently passed legislation requiring a 45% reduction in the amount of toxins found in:
  • Hairspray aerosols

Diseases that used to occur later in life are now appearing at younger ages. Diseases that used to be rare are more frequent. For example: There has been a 28% increase in childhood cancer since the addition of pesticides into household products. Cancer is now the #2 killer of children – second only to accidental poisonings. Since 1977 the rate of cancer among American children has been steadily rising at a rate of nearly 1% each year.

Asthma was once a very rare disease. Now the condition is extremely common – the asthma rate has tripled in the last 20 years with nearly 30 million Americans currently afflicted.
[Source: Consumer Federation of America , 1997]

In one decade, there has been a 42% increase in asthma (29% for men, 82% for women). The higher rate for women is believed to be due to women’s longer exposure times to household chemicals.

Childhood asthma has increased by more than 40% since 1980.

Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) in adults and children is also rising – in 1993, 4.5 million children took the drug Ritalin so they could sit still long enough to learn. By 1998, 11.4 million children were being drugged with this powerful Class-2 narcotic.
[Source: Your Children and Ritalin, The Detroit news (March 8. 1998)]

Developing cells in children’s bodies are more susceptible to damage than adult cells that have completed development, especially for the central nervous system. During the development of a child, from conception through adolescence, there are particular windows of vulnerability to environmental hazards. Most disturbing – until a child is approximately 13 months of age, they are virtually no ability to fight the biological and neurological effects of toxic chemicals.

Warning labels on containers refer only to toxic hazards from ingestion; however, only 10% of health problems from chemicals are caused by ingestion. 90% are caused by the inhalation of vapors and absorption of particles.

Government regulations require that only the most EXTREMELY toxic substances must contain a warning label. Labels that say the following should be removed from your house immediately:
  • “Do not induce vomiting”
  • “Corrosive – rinse from skin immediately”
  • “Harmful or fatal if swallowed”
  • “Call physician immediately”
  • “Warning!” (may mean that as little as 1 teaspoon of product can harm or kill adult)
  • “Danger!” (means that as little as 5 drops can harm or kill an adult)

Phenol is an extremely caustic chemical that burns the skin. Absorption of phenol through the lungs or skin can cause:
  • central nervous system damage
  • pneumonia

Snow day!

It's a snow day and I've been kicked off my computer to the laptop, to stop the tween boredom. The house is actually pretty quiet considering all four kids are home. The two boys did make it outside for some play time in the snow! The youngest even did some shovling. Of course I haven't been able to get much work done, since they keep hunting me down. Perhaps I will take my friend's advice and lock my self in the bathroom with the phone and laptop. lol

The word No

Why are some people more successful than others?
It's a one-word answer.
The word is NO.

Some people have a really tough time accepting the fact that they are going to hear the word NO fairly often. They get discouraged and feel rejected because they look at the word NO as a negative.
Nothing could be further from the truth. The word NO simply means that nothing changes.

Think about it. You approach your neighbor and ask her if she would like to be a Marketing Executive for you or if she would enjoy some FREE sample Melaleuca products. She says NO. What changed? Is she still your neighbor?
YES. Did your income go up or down?
NO. Nothing changed. It can't be a negative. To be negative, things would have gotten worse.
But they didn't.
Everything remained exactly the same.
On the other hand, suppose she had said YES. Now, there are some positive changes. She receives a Melaleuca business or membership (a positive) and you gain a customer (another positive) or even a marketing executive (a better positive) and you earn money (a great positive)!
You can see by this example that there are no negatives in our business. There are only positives and times when nothing changes.

When someone tells you NO, they are not rejecting you or your products. They are simply telling you that they are unable or unwilling to make any changes at the moment.
Once you understand this, doing this business becomes a lot more FUN! So, why not look for a way to make the word NO fun?
Each time someone tells you NO, cross out one of the NO's listed below. Set yourself a goal to get all 100 NO's crossed out within the next 30 days. (NO kidding!)
If you want to see your business explode with growth, take this little exercise seriously.

Here's a hint that will make it easier. Triple up. Ask someone to:
1. Become a Marketing executive. If they say NO, cross a NO off and ask them
to...
2. Become a Customer. If they say NO, cross a second NO off and ask them
to...
3. Give a customer referral. If they say NO again, you got 3 NO's
already!!!
You'll never be better at getting NO's than you are right now. The more you do this, the tougher it will become to get those 100 NO's. You'll find that a YES will creep in here every once in a while.

Don't let the occasional YES distract you from your primary goal of 100 NO's.
Imagine the look on your neighbor's face when she tells you NO and you respond, "Gee thanks. I've only got a few more NO's to go and I"m finished for the month. I was afraid you were going to say YES there for a minute."

Don't take this exercise lightly, it works!!! Get those NO's now while it is
still easy for you to do so. Don't wait until it becomes difficult for
people to tell you NO. That time will come soon enough!

And remember, if you read NO backward, it's ON ON ON ON........

Toothe ache, Pitbull, and non-work

What a day! Staying up too late last night, kept me from getting up on time today. Thankfully my oldest got herself up and ready for school. She even made the bus! The boys did get ready for school, but needed a ride. Today turned into a no work day. I had a dental appointment for an extraction. How fun. Glen brought me home and I headed to bed. Next thing you know I was being woken up by my pit bull niece. Forgot I told my sister I would "babysit" today. Val is the best dog out there. She cuddled up with me and we slept the afternoon and part of the evening away. When I finally emerged, Glen had taken care of the kids and made dinner. Yeah I'm really lucky!
Thankfully my appointment tonight cancelled (and rescheduled for tomorrow). That's about the most work I did today. Tomorrow is going to be busy, with catch up.
My recommendation for pain from having a tooth pulled, lots of sleep. When you do get up, ice and some Pain-A-Trate, this stuff works wonders. The pain inside my mouth is still there, but my face, jaw, cheeks are feeling much better.
Now I'm off to veg on the couch some more with the dog, watch some TV, and wait for her mommy to come pick her up.

Coughing

I was working kinda late tonight, getting my sister set up as a customer. We're sitting in the living room listening to my 9 year old son coughing. It was one of those dry, keeps waking you up, kind of coughs. Poor kid. So I go grab my T36-C5 Melaleuca oil and sneak into his room. Here's the fun part: I weave my way through the toys and climb the ladder (oh yes, he's on the top bunk) into his bed. Then I wormed his feet out of the blankets and rubbed a little bit of the Melaleuca oil onto his feet (Yes, his feet, crazy I know) and the best part of this whole adventure is I didn't even wake him up. No more coughing, he's been silent for the last two hours! One well rested boy for school tomorrow, check. One relieved mommy, check.

Tomorrow- rub some on his chest when we lotion up in the morning. Should make for a mostly cough free day at school!
